These 2 Michigan colleges in top-40 for sending students abroad, ranking says

A number of Michigan universities excel at sending students overseas to study abroad, including two in the top-40 nationally, according to rankings released Monday.
The rankings come from the annual Open Doors report by the New York-based nonprofit Institute of International Education. It looks at students participating in education-abroad programs during the 2022-23 academic year.
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor ranks second nationally with 3,440 students who received academic credit for studying abroad. New York University ranked first and is the only institution with more than 4,000 students.
“To be ranked the No. 1 public university and the No. 2 in the nation for education abroad is a testament to our commitment to provide students with ample and diverse opportunities to engage globally, from study-abroad programs to internships, from research to volunteer trips,” Valeria Bertacco, vice provost for engaged learning at the University of Michigan, said in a statement.
The Ann Arbor university’s students traveled to 124 countries in the 2022-23 academic year, with Spain, Italy and France as the three most popular destinations.
Michigan State University ranked No. 22 nationally by sending 2,085 students abroad.
The rankings featured multiple other lists rankings master’s, baccalaureate, associate’s colleges and universities. Multiple Michigan institutions featured on these lists, as well.
The master’s colleges rankings showed institutions by the rate of how many students participated in study abroad programs. Spring Arbor University ranked No. 25 on the list with a nearly 34% participation rate, while Calvin University in Grand Rapids was No. 37 on the list at 23%.
In the baccalaureate section, Kalamazoo College ranked No. 19 with a nearly 77% participation rate. Alma University ranked No. 30 with a nearly 66% participation rate.
Hope College in Holland also featured in the rankings, as it sent 303 students abroad.
Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City ranked No. 24 for associate’s colleges by sending 53 students abroad. Walsh University in Troy also got recognition for sending 12 students abroad as part of its specialty focus business administration program.
